Distributors and Cinema Owners pins high hopes from Welcome but i dont think so it will do really great business as firstly it has been already seen by ppl on vcd/dvd and then from the film Feroz Khan scenes have been chooped off so i wonder how will the audience enjoy the real fun of the film and how will they understand the story. If it wuld had been released on the same date of its international rls or one week later even it culd had audiences cuming in but still the Feroz Khan thing cums in!
Posted 07 Feb 2008

i wonder why the hell we do such stupid things i mean chopping off feroz khan's scene will make us more pariotic lol this is really funny

Pakistan lifts bans on Bollywood films
------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------
By Businessofcinema.com Team

8 February 2008, 08:08 PM
MUMBAI: The Pakistan government has given the green signal for the Akshay Kumar starrer Welcome to screen in the country's theatres. This thus ends the 43 year old ban on screening of Indian films in the country.

The film's release in Pakistan theatres comes after a Pakistan Senate standing committee on culture had recommended to the government to allow screening of Indian films under a proper censorship policy last month. The ban on Bollywood movies was imposed in 1965 after the India-Pakistan war.

In the past some films like Taj Mahal - An Eternal Love Story, Mughal-e-Azam and Awarapan have also been screened in Pakistan. However, these have been on-off cases.

Some other recent Indian movies that are being screened in Pakistan are Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal and Gangster.

Welcome Creates Waves in Pakistan

Saturday 9th February 2008 9.00 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Welcome opened in Pakistan yesterday (8th Feb) to an overwhelming response. Even though pirated DVD's and VCD's have been available all over Pakistan for the last seven weeks the theatres showed a great turn out.

Cities like Multan, Gujranwala and Faisalabad had excellent collections on day one.

If Pakistan was to became an open territory for hindi films it would be bigger than all the Indian territories except for Mumbai, Delhi/UP and Punjab.

Well one thing is interesting that two Urdu Newspapers has declared the film a flop after the initial rush. The reason stated that people have already seen the film on DVD and Feroz Khan's scenes have been cut.

The figures qouted above are not bad but nothing special. Lets see how it fares this week and next. I am totally against Indian films getting released in Pakistan but from a business point of view until piracy is not totally eliminated in Pakistan then Indian films have no chance.MR NICE39491.319375
