Upon branch oh whippoorwill,
sing a song when day is still.
Echoing a pining sound,
Lover's pain in breeze abound.
Songs of sadness and goodbyes,
in distant hear longing sighs.
Sad sounds my feathered friend,
symbolize summer day's end.
Casting shadows, rustling leaves,
night bird perched atop trees.
Sun setting pale moon arise,
Last day's flight across red skies.
Hear a hush of silence grow,
tears of broken hearts now flow.
Be at rest oh whippoorwill,
weeping heard in night now still.
