Queen of Lollywood goes online

LAHORE: Renowned film actress Meera has become the first Lollywood heroine to launch her own official website.

Talking to Daily Times on Tuesday, a jubilant Meera said, “I have been planning to launch my official website for a long time, for my fans and colleagues of the glitterati.”

Meera said she was extremely happy about the launch of her website (www.meeraonline.net) and hoped it would boost her professional career. She said the website would also serve to bridge the gap and clear misunderstandings between the Pakistani cinema audience and herself.

She said people usually accused actors and actresses of promoting vulgar dances and sub-standard films but forgot that producers and directors made them perform in such films. “Where, after all, can we perform except in our own cinema?” asked Meera.

The actress said she had tried to make less vulgar and more message-oriented films. “A girl who stole the hearts of millions, shone into Lollywood. Who’s that girl? Who’s that woman with an incredible smile?” says Meera’s official portal, with a catchy red and black home page, and other spicy sections including a profile, films and upcoming projects, fan club, heroes and downloads.

Information about the ‘Queen of Lollywood’ such as her favourite colours, dress and movie stars, is included. Meera’s die-hard fans would be interested to know that her date of birth is November 12, her favourite dancer is Madhuri Dixit, ‘Pretty Woman’ is her all-time favourite film and that she is greatly inspired by Mother Teresa and Lady Diana.

The comprehensive site offers a complete list of about sixty films that Meera has acted in, along with another section describing her up-coming ventures. A part of the site displays all the fashion-magazine covers that Meera has ‘adorned’ over the years and includes more than thirty thumbnail photographs.

Membership of Meera’s Fan Club includes exclusive access to her message board, newsletters, exclusive chats and future contests where the members have a chance to win prizes and tickets to her film shows.

Meera’s fans can also make donations to the “Shafqat Trust” a charity in the name of Meera’s mother. It is going to start soon in Shiekhupura, Meera’s birthplace.
