News in Detail Lollywood/Bollywood
Saturday, 23 August 2003.
Shahzad Rafique's forthcoming film Salaakhein has hit a controversy even before it’s released.
The film, which marks the debut of Ahmed Butt and Sajid Hassan on big screen, is already being looked forward to for its impressive star cast and promising storyline.
The industrywallahs however have started a campaign against it as Shahzad Rafique who is alleged to have called for the services of Indian choreographers for his film. This of course is not doing down well with our 'patriotic' industry whose definition of patriotism is 'Hate India'. Protests are being registered, Shahzad is being declared as 'unpatriotic', and the industry even seems to be in a mood to get his film banned. To add fire to the fuel industry's once favourite singer Waris Baig too has been telling anyone who cares to listen that it's very unfair to hire foreign talent when local talent is present in 'abundance'.
One wonders why our industry is so averse to competition. Agreed, it's a very small industry and foreign 'imports' can harm the local industry but how long will we keep providing them the protection. Hope the industry wallas think about the audience too who give their money and time to see a good film and when they see our actresses doing all the unimaginable acts in gowns designed by Master jee, they don't feel any better.
