I don't know your background but wld agree partially wid yur parents. Cross cultural relationships usually don't last long bcuz ov cultural differences. It takes long time and effort to make adjustments for alien cultural values requiring patience which most people lack even for minor adjustments in indigenous cultures.
Parents know us even better than we know ourself. We are indebted to them for life. Just for our moms to bear our burden and pains for months to ensure our live birth. If it was not their kindness and mercy we would not be breathing let alone talking bad of their reluctance to grant us our mere wishes.
They understand our feelings but at any point they feel our best interests are at risk, they refuse to oblige. All we need to do is to present the case in a way it makes them feel comfortable with it.

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No I won't be afraid, no I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me
If the sky that we look upon Should tumble and fall
And the mountains should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry, no I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me
Whenever you're in trouble won't you stand by me,
oh now now stand by me Oh stand by me, stand by me,
And darlin', darlin', stand by me
