syed noor launches ’The Price of Honour’

Noor's social realism
by MAIRA FAYYAZ

"We hope to highlight issues that depict the most deplorable social realities, in a way never shown on celluloid before," claimed renowned film director Syed Noor, talking about his next movie 'The Price of Honour' in a press conference held here at a local hotel, Thursday.
"Our film's realism will shock the audience into thinking," he said.
"Going by the current trend in Lollywood, you might expect me to say that our film has DTS, it's been shot on foreign locales with a special camera, it has music recorded in India and choreographed by a Bollywood person and that it is the most expensive movie ever made in Pakistan. For me, these are irrelevant considerations.
"As far as 'The Price of Honour' is concerned it has been directed by me and penned by Afzal M Khan and myself. It is a research-oriented subject based on actual events. We spent six months on its script alone, translating it into the dialect of the region where the events took place. The entire movie will be shot on location in the village of Firozepura. There will be no glamorization of contents. How can you glamorize rape, abuse and murder?" he said.
Syed Noor added that that there would be no songs in the movie.
"The cast of all the key characters will be selected after auditions by Afzal Khan and myself. They will be selected on merit."
In reply to a query, Syed Noor said that although he enjoyed the reputation of making family movies such as Mehendi Waley Hath, Dupata Jal Raha Hai etc., 'The Price of Honour' "will not be a family film. It will be for adults!"

Interesting choice of subject. I stil feel if Syed Noor can get his priorities right then he still is a great Director.

One thing which I cannot understand is when ever some director wants to make something different then why does he have to choose and hightlight the negative aspects of our society.

Without doubt this is a serious matter and should be highlighted as much as it could be. Infact this has been in the news in the last few months. This is probably where Syed Noor and Afzal Khan have got their inspiration from.

I would also like our media and especially the filmmakers to show the positive aspects of our society.

Making art films is not about just showing the depressing side of our society. There are numerous aspects of our society on which films can be made.

The balance should be right.

Syed Noor making film on honour killing

Staff Report

LAHORE: Film director Syed Noor has announced that his next film, titled ‘The price of honour’, was based on honour killings.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Noor said he had been making social and romantic films but from now on he would only direct issue-based films. He said that it took him a year to think and work on the idea of making a film on honour killing.

He said he was not making such films for international fame rather wanted to do convey a message through his films. He said the story of the film was 75 percent true which revolved around women killed in the name of honour.

Noor said that he would also focus on the Hudood Ordinance in the film, which had not been clearly stated by the government. He said he would face the censor board bravely if they removed the ordinance issue from the film.

The director said that it was a low-budget film with a new cast and there would be no songs in it. The running time of the film would be 100 minutes which was a new experiment, he added.

He said the film was set against the backdrop of Firozepura village in southern Punjab and would be completed in the next three months. He said he would send the film in the Cannes Film Festival in January. The film’s producer is Afzal M Khan and is jointly written by Noor and Khan.

He said the film’s main story was that a young schoolteacher was raped in front of the whole village as punishment because her brother had a relationship with a feudal lord’s sister.

He said that the National College of Arts (NCA) was teaching film-making in its Film and TV Department but it did not invite people from the film industry to teach students about films. “To me, bookish knowledge is easy to convey but it is difficult to teach film-making in a practical manner,” Noor said.

Well this might surprise alot of people but Syed Noor has decided on the heroine of his film "The price of Honour" and for once its not Saima but a new girl. She is supposed to be the cousin of Adeleeb.

I don't now which Andeleeb is this but it could the one who appeared in Syed Noor's Ghunghat.

well if you had time to read the article instead of bashing saima and noor you would have known that the cast will be new and fresh.

Look Syed Noor keeps on saying that he will include new faces in his next project but always ends up casting Saima.

I have nothing against Saima or Syed Noor. Syed Noor still is a very talented director and Saima is a good actress.

The fact is Saima is in Every Syed Noor film and in alot of the films the role did not suite Saima.
