Straight Answer..

Rashid W Khawaja , Pakistani film producer, On comparison between Pakistani and Indian film industries.

Why has Pakistani theatre been more popular than its films?

In Pakistan, most of the educated actors chose television and steered clear of films in the initial stages. Hence television became more popular as the medium where all the creativity lay. In India on the other hand, the educated actors chose to join the film industry, which is why it is popular the world over today.

Why the need to use Indian technicians in your films?

Pakistan has an abundance of talent and its melody based music is very strong.

In fact, most of our hit songs have been copied by Indian filmmakers. But when it comes to departments like editing and choreography where technique and technology is required, we are very weak. That is why I chose to come to India in 1996 for my film Very Good Duniya, Very Bad Log in which Bhupinder Singh Bhuppi did the choreography.

Now I'm doing the post-production work for my second film Salakhain in Mumbai.

Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik have done the playback singing for three songs in the film.

This is shocked news for me..becoz site dont have indian singer song.

How are the two industries similar or different?

There is no difference in the two industries at all. Storytelling and themes are exactly the same as they are in India. Our stars are larger than life and enjoy cult status with fans too.

Will producing a film together with an Indian counterpart be beneficial to both countries?

In the friendly atmosphere that has developed between the two countries today, this project is going to be very beneficial for both countries.

A Punjabi film Pind Di Kudi is being produced by film producer Iqbal Dhillon and myself. With the release of this film, India will get a very big market in Pakistan because people are already excited about the two industries coming together. We may be looking at the film markets opening up for both countries soon.
