DDLJ celebrates record 500 weeks run
Mumbai, May 13 : It was the celebration times for everyone associated with the trend-setter movie Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) today as it played for a record 500th week in a row today at a cinema hall here. The film starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol - has played non-stop at Maratha Mandir since its release in October 1995, industry officials said. Manoj Desai, owner of the cinema hall, after a full house on Friday said that his theatre aims to celebrate the movie's 10th anniversary later this year. "I feel so happy, my and Yashji's hardwork has paid off. In today's times when even a multi-starrer is not able to pull public, I am playing housefull even after 500 weeks," he said. Shot in London and in the country's lush mustard fields, the movie has collected more than 2 billion rupees at box offices, after being made for about 70 million rupees. "Sholay" held the previous Bollywood record, which ran for six years from 1975. Churned from the house of Yash Chopra, known as "romance moughal", the film started the trend of shooting in exotic foreign locales and designer wear in the film industry. "I think its a very proud moment, very happy moment for our Yashraj films, but I must say the credit goes to the audience who have been coming to see this film for 10 years, and the staff of this hall who is so cooperative and protective, they treat this like their own film," said Chopra.
