your comments on Hijab are very accurate. Thanks for taking time out for writing this rather long response. I find it very difficult to find time to respond... though I itch so bad to respond to topics where religion is misunderstood.
I want to add two other conditions as I have known as part of hijab:
1. Colors of outer garments should not be very attractive and eye catching - Women are prohibited from showing their beauty and beautifying themselves when outing from their homes. They are though at liberty to beautify themselves for their spouses and at home. Similarly, men are required to dress modestly. The purpose and intention of clothing should be to cover onself in obedience to Allah's command as opposed to impressing others or attracting others attention.
2. Clothes of males should not resemble clothes of female and the other way around...for clear distinction between men and women.
You are absolutely right that hijab is definitely a symbol of haya as ordained in Quran and as seen in the teachings of beloved prophet SAW. Hijab is not haya by it self. It is the individual conduct and how we carry ourself reflects our level of haya. Some may only adopt that symbol for a variety of reasons but haya may not have touched their heart. On the other hand, there may be some who do not observe the complete hijab, but they have haya in their hearts. This haya may not have matured to the point that they submit to the demands of their creator.
