Curtain rises on the Global Indian Film Awards in Dubai

The curtain rises on the eagerly anticipated Global Indian Film Awards (GIFA). Hindi Film fans from the GCC have chosen their winners… who will win the best actor? Who will steal hearts as she walks away with the best actress award? Which film will have the votes of Hindi film fans in the Middle East? And, who is the best director in town? The answers will be unveiled at the Al Wasl Stadium this January.
Stars from the Indian film industry including; Shahrukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Salman Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Shahid Kapoor, Koena Mitra, Saif Ali Khan, Amrita Rao, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgan, Abhishek Bachchan, Lara Dutta, Suniel Shetty, Fardeen Khan, Sohail Khan, Zayed Khan, Anil Kapoor and a host of Indian Film Stars are expected to walk down the red carpet and dazzle the crowd with their presence and show their support for the first Global Indian Film Awards to be held in Dubai.
GIFA will be hosted by accomplished presenters including the versatile Gulshan Grover, the gorgeous Diana Hayden, the beautiful Celina Jaitley and the talented Perizad Zorabian. GIFA’s eminent panel of judges will also be present at the award ceremony including; Aziz Mirza, Sir Om Puri, Kabir Bedi, Umesh Mehra, Feroz Nadiadwala, Bharti Pradhan and Priti Hiranandani.
Sameer Khan, VP Global Events and GIFA’s official spokesperson said “The Global Indian Film Awards will usher in a new benchmark for the Indian film industry and be the launch pad for the global aspirations of films made there. It also brings to the fore the role that the Dubai can play in promoting cinema in the region.
I am sure, that initiating the Middle East viewer’s choice vote will influence a new trend for the Indian Film Industry.”
Films like Hulchul, Hum Tum, Main Hoon Na, Mujse Shaadi Karoge and Veer Zaara are in the reckoning for the Best Movie award. Stars like Saif Ali Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan and Shah Rukh Khan will vie for the Best Actor award while Kareena Kapoor, Urmila Matondkar, Rani Mukherjee, Aishwarya Rai and Preity Zinta are in the fray for the Best Actress award. The presence of a galaxy of stars and a complete Indian Film style entertainment extravaganza that will be aired on various TV and radio channels will mark the presentation ceremony.
Bollywood fans from the Middle East have voted online for the Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Film awards through an interactive web and a print-based polling format. Voting for these 3 popular categories ended on 22nd January 2005. The other 20 categories will be determined by the judges in concert with PricewaterhouseCoopers who are Official Tabulators, endorsing the voting procedures and confirming the winners of all categories.

A website — cafedreams.com — offering memorabilia of 250 Indian and international stars and celebrities on auction and a stock of 1,600 items was launched today.
Part of the proceeds of every auction on the site benefits a charity, with the site benefiting a total of 61 charities. The site is auctioning exclusive celebrity-related opportunities like a chance to act in a scene of a Mahesh Bhatt production, appear in a Sukhbir music video, have a tabla lesson from Zakir Hussain, spend a weekend in Srinagar with Omar Abdullah, receive a personalised greeting card from Daler Mehndi, spend a day on the sets with Rahul Dev or be an assistant to Rocky S.
The other offers include being in a Hindi film song sequence choreographed by Farah Khan, getting VJ training lessons from Sophiya haque, going on a date with celina Jaitley or Dino Morea, getting groomed for the Miss India contest by Gul panag or a chance to model in the fashion shows of Suneet Verma, J.J. Valaya, Raghavendra Rathore, Rina Dhaka or Ashish Soni.
The site also has a large collection of physical memorabilia on auction, including a mouse pad autographed by Bill Gates, a sandalwood elephant autographed by Bill Clinton, a bat autographed by the famous 1986 Australian Cricket team, the Sri Lanka team shirt that Muttiah Muralitharan wore when he got his world record one day bowling figures.
Miss Universe outfits of Madhu Sapre, CDs signed by the Indian Hockey team, an autographed photograph of madonna, an autographed photograph of the Beatle Ringo Starr, a silver and pearls evening gown of Maharani Gayatri Devi, autographed gift baskets of Shahnaz Husain products, handwritten manuscripts of the shankaracharya of Puri and a signed copy of the autobiographies of Margaret Thatcher and Benazir Bhutto are also on sale.
The inaugural auction on the site is a handkerchief used by the great saint, Swami Chinmayananda. The entire proceeds of that auction will be donated to the All India Chinmaya Yuva Kendra, the youth wing of the Chinmaya Mission.
The founders of cafedreams.com — Jujhar Singh and Ramona Sood — were previously in the television media. It has taken them a year and a half to build the site. According to the site’s founders, 54 celebrities have signed exclusivity agreements with the site, whereby the site becomes the official memorabilia site of these celebrities.

I like Aishwarya a lot. She is gorgeous. She acts well and is a terriffic dancer too.
