Ritu Kumar felicitated at Indian Fashion Awards

MUMBAI: It was a night of colour and style at the first Indian F Awards which celebrated the best that Indian fashion has to offer.

Organised by Wizcraft, the event aired live on NDTV. Zee's Trendz also partnered for the event.




Fashion design icon Ritu Kumar was recognised for her contribution to the Indian fashion industry. Over the years, she has championed the cause of struggling artisans. Kumar has also used Indian craft to reflect both tradition and modernism.

"Indian fashion is at a cross roads. Now we have international labels like Prada coming in. It is important that Indian designers stand united. In this way we can meet the challenge. India is one of the few countries where indigenous craft is available. Also fashion enthusiasts mostly see the glamour and the fun," she says.




"The fact is that fashion is one of the most difficult professions to work in India. You are your own marketing person, businessman, PR executive. Abroad platforms that designers have to create awareness about their wares do not exist in India," she adds.

The evening saw a performance by Strings. Celina Jaitley and a dance troupe did a Madonna impression with Material Girl. Aishwarya Rai who won an award for being a fashionable person in film said that a ceremony recognising fashion was long overdue. "This industry gave me a start. It is great that we can award their creative efforts."




Fab India was recognised in the retail brand category. The challenge for the brand was to build up social and cultural identification. In this way customer loyalty is maintained. The Times Of India's Vinod Nair was chosen as the best fashion journalist.

Zayed Khan of the Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne fame will star in the Hindi version of a Southern remake titled, I.D.I.O.T. which stands for I Do Ishq Only Tumse (meaning I will only love you).

A muhurat for the film was held in Mumbai in April. This ceremonious activity involves the very first take.

Directed by Deepak Shivdasani, this film will see Zayed playing the lead role against former Miss India, Celina Jaitley.   

The story is based on a middle-class girl whose boyfriend simply cannot do anything right in the eyes of the law.

Sporting a new hair style, Zayed managed to spare some time during his muhurat shots to pose for some photographs.   

Though Chura Liya Hai Tumne did not do well at the box office, Zayed seems to have been appreciated for his performance.

Latest news suggests that he will be starring in Bisaat which will be directed by Satish Kaushik and will co-star Esha Deol.

He will also be playing a small part in the Shah Rukh Khan production Main Hoon Na, produced and directed by Farah Khan.

So it looks like it's going to be busy days ahead for Khan.

Zayed Khan: 'I'm playing the idiot'

Zayed Khan, who is all set to debut in Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne, is very excited about Farha Khan's Main Hoon Na -- where he is pitted against Shah Rukh Khan.

"He is an amazing actor," he gushes. "He is great fun to work with. As a costar, he is very kind."

Zayed recently signed another film called Idiot with Celina Jaitley. "I like the movie a lot. The title and movie are both very controversial. People are already asking me, 'So, are you playing the idiot?' I am, in an ironical way. My character is a man who wants to do things right, but he does it wrongly in the eyes of society and the law. I start shooting for the film in April."

Celina doesn’t care a fig for narrow minds!

Even before her Bollywood debut, Celina Jaitley has created a stir by her hot and skimpily clad scenes in Feroz Khan’s Janasheen.

Celina, who has already been branded by some as the bikini girl, says that the song sequence in Janasheen that shows her in bikini was the need of the movie’s script and therefore she did not object to doing it.

“Initially I was apprehensive wearing a bikini, but I realized the idea of wearing one was not to titillate the audience, but was the demand of the script,” says the actress.

But Celina is unhappy about the way her hot debut is being seen. “I don’t care a bit for narrow minds. My parents respect all my decisions and support me in things I believe in doing, and that is all that matter to me.”

Celina’s will soon be seen alongside Sunil Shetty and Ajay Jadeja in Khel. She has also signed a number of projects including Abbas-Mustan's next film with Akshay Kumar, and ‘Idiot’ with Zayed Khan.

Former Femina Miss India Celina Jaitely has been signed to play newcomer Zayed Khan’s lover in a Bollywood film.

The film, titled ‘Idiot’ is based on the story of a middle-class girl (Celina) falling in love with a mentally retarded guy to be played by Zayed.

‘Idiot’ will also have another heroine in a marginal role.

A leading director of Bollywood will wield the megaphone for the movie, which is expected to go on floors in the coming month.
