Valentines....

do u beleive in celebrating valentines day.?

last year, i made a topic.. just wanted to convey my thought...

Celebrating this day means Following Saint valentine.. do we have to follow him?

Posted on 2/12/2007 10:44:23 PM

i dont beleive in such days
btw,, wots the story behind it

who s st valentine ??

Posted on 2/12/2007 11:16:17 PM

let me find that story, i have read stories about it.. with minor differences..

In short, saint valentines was put in prison by king of that time. the king was against love and lovers. king's daughter fell in love with valentine..

dont know what exactly happened on 14th. he was executed.. and i think before that he sent a bookay to grl....

Posted on 2/12/2007 11:20:18 PM

i m seriously shocked aisha.. what we are doing.. as with basant, we are making these days SPECIAL and part of our traditions.. they are being celebrated as v special ocassions.. i think people are not as much excited on Eidain as they are enthusiastic about these...

yarr even in europe (western society) not much ppl know abt the roots of this event
all I know is,, its nothing but another way to make ppl spend money
pure eco/commercial day,, there isnt anything sentimental here

same in india and pak
waise bhi we love to follow wotever sounds "filmi"

Posted on 2/12/2007 11:23:52 PM

hmmmm... well said..

"Filmi" ... but its not as harmless as it seems....

Posted on 2/12/2007 11:31:52 PM

same with basant
alcohol, drugs, and mujre,, how many ppl bring their wives and sisters to these special basant evenings ??
hmmmm,,, hamra bhi dil kar raha hai jaane ka ab to

... because it seems so attractive. It is like a chocolate quoted poison pill.
...and the generation before them is so blinded by the glare of its outlook. Oblivious of a blackhole behind it, they are throwing themselves in it at full speed. their kids follow their footsteps.

Nations that loose their true identity, loose their self-respect, dignity, freedom and themselves. In hunt for a new identity they become captivies of alien isms so they may be identified by that. Irony of it is, they will remain second class and their children will be enslaved - not necessarily in physical sense.

Commercialism: That is always the driving force in all deviations. This is nothing new. Another old tradition is to think commercialized customs are benign and harmless.

Only one example I will present for those who will understand.

Quresh of makkah opposed Islam right at its birth. Islam meant end of their commercialized pagan practices. Manufacturing and trading of idols will not exist anymore, pilgrims will not be required to purchase their pilgrimage clothings from quresh at a premium and on and on...in short, end of monopoly on trade, commerce, and wealth accumulation in few hands and end of slavry...leading to justice, equal treatment, freedom, opportunity for all to prosper and be protected...

Yeah because, we think that's where fun, honor and recognition is. we are like tumbling weeds that are kicked around in direction of the wind. even when its not blowing hard - it won't hold a ground. It can't stand upto the weakest of gusts of wind.

I fear of our future generations treading the path of complete ignorance. We are not passing to them a fully lit lamp. Rather, we are pushing ourselves and them into the darkness of ignorance.

all sorts of commercialism.
Don't people buy candies and chocolates on this ocassion and you might notice their prices shoot up.

Bakery products, flowers, cards, stuffed bears .... sell like anything. your right!! profiteers fill their coffers.

your right fragi, expressing your love to your spouse is not wrong. But it is wrong for people to show it to non-mehrams, if we are believers in its fullest sense.

Observence of this day encourages illicit relations and promotes indecency. Above all, it is part of christian renaissance - tracing roots to roman christian origin.

my question is, what are our roots, our identity, our heritage, our customs, I do not mean paki, I mean Muslim

" Bat sirf itni hay kay KOI bi din ho, HAD main rah kar manao to koi burai nahin, but agar EID ko bi GHALAT tarikay say manao gey to is say EID HARAM nahin ho jaey gi,.. GHALTI AAP KI HOGI."

( uff mujhe neend a rahi hay )

Aasera:

and what is it that you are wishing friends?
and who are those friends? I don't mean you as you it rather general.

Aasera:

agreed just because everybody is doing a haram, it doesn't become halal.

Aasera:

Now who said you can't give gifts and well wishes to your sisters? and then mhy valentine's day? The spirit of valentine is not about that kind of affection.

Aasera:

" Bat sirf itni hay kay KOI bi din ho, HAD main rah kar manao to koi burai nahin,

disagree
I respect everybody's days of celebration but don't want to follow anybody's days or celebrations. There is no question of limits or out-of-limits there. The reason we have our own festivities and etiquettes of celebrating those are to give us our own identity.

Aasera:

but agar EID ko bi GHALAT tarikay say manao gey to is say EID HARAM nahin ho jaey gi,.. GHALTI AAP KI HOGI."

agreed

i am fully agree with the people who are against celebrating Valentine's day.
i think the media is responsible for it.
