dolly, Prophet SAW commanded us to read the whole Quran in a month, every month. Doing more is better and particularly in this month. But there are no such requirements in Taraveeh. Purpose of Taraveeh is to make qiyam and listen to Quran (absorb it) and pay attention to it.
Surat-ul-ikhlas is a third of Quran in its message. Also, in the tradition of the Prophet, Of all the books Allah SWT revealed, He summarized them in the four books (Tourah, Zuboor, Injeel, and Quran). Summary of them is in Quran. Summary of Quran is in the last part of Quran from Surah Qaf to An-nas. Summary of that is in Suratul Fatiha and summary of Fathiha is in one verse, Iyyak na'budo wa Iyyak nastaeen.

Badal, I respect your opinion and would suggest reconsideration. Quran was not revealed for virtues and blessings. Its like a prescription, no matter how much you recite, it will not benefit unless you make proper use of it. Quran is a manual of human life. Virtues of its recitation and its blessings were not told to the companions until the last when they had adopted it in their lives.
Requiring completion of Quran in Tarveeh is well known and a well established ritual. Breaking away from which amounts to many as abondoning prophetic tradition. This misunderstanding led many to innovate their own versions of taraveeh. Becuz the purpose is to finish Quran, then there are some who finish it 3 nights @ 100 mph speed and are done for Ramadan. Task is accomplished but the spirit of worship, recitation of Quran and Qiyam in every night of Ramadan are completely lost.

President Bush's $50m campaign for image restoration fell on its face in Middle east in 2004. Israel has been Muslim blood thirsty for over half century has offered help to rescue Muslim lives in Pak - isn't it little ironic!

That's the story I referred to in one of the posts sis dolly. the 4 yr ole lil girl is man's sister in law. When I read that story, it boiled my blood. I was so enraged, I can't express it in words.
NB, PERDAH is not an issue here. Girl was only 4 yrs old and it has nothing to do with the system. It is only a perverted mind and a filthy soul that commits such a heinous crime.
Mentioning of beard was not out of context either bcuz this person was known as a religious and presumably versed in islamic morals. he kept a beard knowing it is from the sunnah of the prophet and had no regard for it while commiting the act in a violent manner. He committed this crime against a minor and scarred her and her family's lives for ever. He shattered what remained of any confidence of people in institutions of family and protection Allah gauranteed in it.
This person is being prosecuted and when found guilty, should really be stoned to death.

That's the only card Bush got to play - Fear of Islam in the hearts of Americans. That won him 2nd term in the office, sweeping changes in govt establishments and laws, and a justification to build more military power.

Becuz your thoughts are of old timers - i don't mean to put you on the spot, anyone with such thoughts and values considered backward in Pakistan.
Ashkhan, I agree, I care less about what people think and label us with. My point is that labelling and name calling pushes people back from the right thing. This is what I see in America. youngsters shy away from islam and good values becuz with those values they won't fit-in the cirlces. They become outcast and lonely.

I think I didn't phrase it right? I am aware of taraveeh's importance; I am concerned with the way it is performed. The general mind-set is to finish Quran in Taraveeh whether you understand a word of it or not.
My question then, what's the use of it? What do you benefit? Everything is for blessings - last of the virtues of any worship. Why do we want to settle for crumbs when we can have the cake?

Sall you asked very fundamental question of how to difine and what makes a molvi? I don't have any answers for you. This topic focuses on general feeling about anyone percieved to be molvi. Freddy, you got right on it I think athar repeated Freddy's opinion in exclamation.
After extended observations I have some drawn up conclusions. I'll present those a bit later. i first want to see how you guys draw it up.
